Homeward Bound

On our way back to Minneapolis we were able to hang out with my parents in my hometown of Hatley, Wisconsin. Trees, cows, dirt roads and wide open spaces–all very welcomed after being in New York for a couple months.

Scrimshaw: House on The Rock Goes Nautical

Scrimshaw - House on the Rock Goes Nautical
The House on the Rock adventure continues. One of our favorite finds were these vintage pieces of scrimshaw. Also in this room: A full size whale sculpture and a rendition of Octopus’s Garden by The Beatles looping to infinitely.

House on The Rock

I don’t know where to begin. After Madison, we met up with our good friends Steve and Anch for a little weekend fun in the Wisconsin Dells. We met at House on the Rock.

In case you are unfamiliar, House on the Rock is a crazy, circusy house-slash-roadside-attraction that is overflowing with strange collectibles and curiosities. They just go on and on.

I was the only one that had ever been there (twice, I might add), and I had been meaning to take Nate for years. Not unlike the Madonna Inn in San Luis Obispo, it is pure visual overload. Full of the weird and the kitschy, the whole place becomes an exercise in endurance by the end—which, to be honest, is part of the fun.
