Pixar
“Unbelievable.” “Amazing.” These were the first words we said to each other upon leaving our tour of Pixar Studios. Our host: Sanjay Patel, a very talented animator at Pixar, as well as an illustrator and author in his own right. Is there anything this guy can’t do?!
During a three-and-a-half hour tour (seriously! almost four hours!), Sanjay showed us around the main Pixar building, walking us through their processes, studio philosophies, offices, art, screening rooms, secret rooms and everything in between. In the end, I have to say it was the most creative space I had ever been in. Talking later, we mentioned that it was the kind of space you’d hope that Pixar would have. It met our full expectations and then some.

Sadly, with a studio tour comes gates, sign-ins, security guards and many secrets, so pictures had to be kept to a minimum. Only certain safe places and spaces were OK’d for cameras. But let’s just say there was art everywhere. They truly celebrate the talent they have working there, in all mediums and every facet.

The amount of work and detail that goes into Pixar’s movies is astonishing and incomprehensible, even for those who have some knowledge of the animation process. Story, color, textures, modeling, lighting, set and character development—the list goes on and on. Our jaws are still on the floor, and our heads are about to explode. Thanks for the inspiration, Sanjay and Pixar.

I have always said that I would only go back to the ol’ 9 to 5 if Pixar offered me a job. Is there any cooler place on earth? I think not. Thanks for sharing your tour with all of us – you are so lucky! Happy Monday – Kyle

This is amazing. How does one even score a tour of pixar? I would love to check it out! Is it super exclusive or just really pricey?

I attempted to get into the animation field, but only on the condition that I would eventually work there! Pixar is my dream employer! Sadly, I lack a little thing called talent. I also attempted the science side of animation (computer science) but that wasn’t my thing. Oh well, I will continue seeing their movies as long as I live and they’re in business!
