We couldn’t have been in and out of Chicago faster. It was unfortunate for us that we couldn’t work out a longer stay, because we love it there.
Brandon has a great typographic and illustrative style. I particularly liked his 2010 project “A Word A Day,” where he set out to draw a word almost every 24 hours. Check out the collection and other parts of his portfolio here.
One of the best things about life in Brooklyn is the backyard BBQ. A handful of our friends have charming garden spaces behind their buildings — perfect places to gather with friends on a summer night.
Our friends Jason Walzer and Andrea Floren have been hosting an annual pulled-pork BBQ for the past two years. Inspired by their trip through the Southern United States, the menu’s main dish is an amazing combo of slow-cooked pork, homemade BBQ sauce and cole slaw, all nestled into a warm bun. Jason’s newfound love for home brew provides the perfect bevy to wash it all down … delicious. I feel wonderfully full just thinking about it.
Our One Year trip has ended, but we still have some posts we didn’t get to before we left for Europe. So now we’re just picking up where we left off!
On that note, let us introduce New York Photographer Mickey Smith. We first met Mickey eight years ago at a dingy Minneapolis designer hangout known as Cuzzy’s. Since then, Mickey has blown up—and we get to say we knew her back in the day…
Five years ago, as a McKnight Foundation Artist Fellow, Mickey put together a stunning collection of images entitled Volume. Shortly thereafter, she moved with her husband to New York, conquered the art world, and had a baby boy. Now, she continues to create new work and exhibits around the world. We are so proud!
Head over heels to be included in the upcoming WOMN: Women in Minnesota Design Show, part of the CVA Leaders of Design Series. With so many fantastic ladies to choose from I’m ecstatic to share a spot alongside my idols in a show celebrating some of the best in the community.
The show kicks off with a panel discussion with Sue Crolick, Cynthia Knox, and Kelly Munson and moderated by Star Tribune columnist Gail Rosenblum. It takes place at the Minnesota History Center this Wednesday, October 26th at 7:00pm. Register online here.
And then, finally, the public exhibition opening reception is this Thursday, October 27th at 6:00pm – 8:00pm at the CVA Gallery in St. Paul. Free, no reservation necessary.
